Total passenger traffic in January 2022 was 1,213,000 passengers, down 69.4% on the corresponding period in 2019.

Domestic passenger traffic totalled 951,000 in January 2022, down 58.4% on the corresponding period in 2019. 261,000 international passengers passed through Sydney Airport in January 2022, down 84.3% on the corresponding period in 2019.

Sydney Airport CEO Geoff Culbert said: “January was another tough month, but it was good to see the Federal Government announce the date for re-opening of our borders to tourists, business travellers and other visa holders.

“It will be a slow build, but with the borders re-opening today, a number of our international airline partners will bring on more capacity in March and we are working closely with State and Federal Governments and their respective tourism agencies to stimulate demand.”
